Amazon Invests $50,000 in Drone Education and Experiential Learning

A 2025–2026 School Year Community Investment
Amazon invested $50,000 in The Dee Howard Foundation, directly benefiting East Central ISD and other regional students through hands-on drone education and experiential learning during the 2025–2026 school year.
Amazon’s investment strengthens both classroom instruction and large-scale student experiential learning competitions, giving students meaningful exposure to emerging technologies and real-world applications.
Expanding the Drone Classroom
Amazon’s school-year investment expanded The Dee Howard Foundation Drone Classroom Program at East Central ISD.
This investment provided:
- Hands-on drone equipment for classroom instruction
- FAA Part 107 certification preparation
- Industry-aligned curriculum
- Professional development and implementation support for educators
- Career pathway exposure in unmanned aerial systems (UAS), logistics, automation, and advanced air mobility (AAM)
The Drone Classroom Program moves beyond theory. Students build technical skills, operational awareness, and problem-solving capabilities using technology that mirrors what industry is deploying today.
Amazon’s support ensures sustained engagement through full classroom integration.
“When students are able to learn emerging technology in the classroom and then see it deployed at scale in the real world, it changes their perspective on what is possible. Amazon’s investment expands opportunity and helping students see themselves in the future of innovation and advanced industry.”

Supporting the Regional Drone Competition
Amazon’s investment also supported the annual Dee Howard Foundation Drone Competition, bringing together hundreds of students to compete in industry-modeled drone challenges.
The competition provides:
- Real-world problem scenarios - 2025 competition theme was "Warehouse Logistics and Operations"
- Team-based operational execution
- Industry judges and mentorship
- Applied learning under performance conditions
Students move from learning concepts to executing missions, strengthening precision, communication, and leadership skills in a high-energy environment.

Connecting Classroom to Industry: Amazon Facility Tour
As part of this partnership, Amazon invited students to tour Amazon’s local fulfillment center and drone delivery operations.
For many students, this was their first time seeing:
- Advanced logistics systems operating at scale
- Automation integrated into supply chain operations
- Commercial drone delivery infrastructure
- Technology careers in action
The experience allowed students to connect classroom learning to real operations in their own community.
When students see emerging technology deployed in real-world settings, possibility becomes tangible.

A Commitment to Innovation and Community
Amazon’s partnership reflects a strong commitment to:
- Community engagement
- Workforce development through experiential learning
- Emerging technology education
- Student exposure to high-growth career pathways
With industries like logistics, automation, and drone delivery, rapidly evolving, early exposure and applied learning experiences prepare students to lead in the future economy.
Strengthening the Talent Pipeline
The Dee Howard Foundation works to build a strong aerospace and advanced technology talent pipeline across the San Antonio region.
Amazon’s investment during the 2025–2026 school year strengthens that pipeline by connecting education, experience, and industry.
We are grateful for Amazon’s leadership and belief in expanding opportunity for students through hands-on, future-focused learning.
